Quarterly Self-Audits Without Opening Every Safe
Clients with bank deposit boxes, office safes, and home storage often admit they verify everything simultaneously — then skip audits for eighteen months because the process feels overwhelming.
The Rotation Principle
Divide devices and backups into three verification groups. Each quarter, fully verify one group. Over a year, every item receives attention without a single marathon weekend.
Group A — Home-accessible devices. Power-on PIN checks, visual backup envelope inspection.
Group B — Off-site storage. Deposit box visit or trusted co-holder confirmation with dated signature.
Group C — Deep storage or heir-sealed materials. Confirm seal integrity, log storage climate readings if applicable, do not open unless scheduled.
What Gets Written Down
Each verification produces one line in your ledger: date, group letter, items checked, anomalies noted. Anomalies might include “deposit box key stiff — schedule locksmith” or “desiccant saturated — replace in April.”
No balances, no seed phrases, no photographs of recovery materials.
Pairing With Professional Review
Self-audits complement but do not replace annual professional ledger reviews. We compare your quarterly notes against the master inventory and catch drift — a device you forgot to assign to a rotation group, a backup location added during a hurried move.
Starting This Quarter
If you lack a master inventory, begin with a Cold Storage Inventory Session. If you already maintain records, download our rotation template during a Preservation Records visit or request it via contact.
